Advice on Maintenance and Cleaning Of Cast Metal Lettering & Signage
Wondering “how to maintain cast metal letters” or “how to clean cast plaques”, including road welcome signs, nameplates and plaques in cast bronze, brass, aluminum and stainless steel?
Cast metal lettering by Behrends has either a clear acrylic metal lacquer protective coating (on brushed finishes) or an automotive acrylic lacquer finish.
Provided that this finish is not damaged during the installation process or from subsequent acts of vandalism, you can expect many years of service without any maintenance requirements.
Offset mounting the lettering allows rain to keep the letter faces reasonable clean. If periodic cleaning is desired, use a mild detergent with a soft cloth or sponge.
NEVER USE STRONG CHEMICALS, ABRASIVES OR METAL CLEANING SOLUTIONS as damage to the protective coating will result.
Any wiping motion should be done with the grain of the letter (for brushed finishes) to minimize the visual effect of any minor surface scratching of the lacquer coating.
