Originally approached by the client, our design team headed by Brent Tatarin met with them to develop a brand design and logo from scratch. Based on our consultations, our designers drafted several hand sketches that were then wholeheartedly embraced by the client and sent for full project development. One of the benefits of this project was that the client knew their location and all necessary applications for the branding, logo and signage prior to its implementation. This is not always the case, but it allowed Behrends Group to develop a more holistic and comprehensive approach to implementing their vision properly. This was reflected afterwards by the fact that the client fully applied our branding development and logo throughout their restaurant and marketing materials, far beyond their front-facing signage.
The development of the branding itself involved the creation of two branches: Bottega and B104 as a secondary logo referring to their location on 104th Street in downtown Edmonton. The Behrends designers adapted a suitable font to existing typefaces based on the approved schematics and with a little tweaking, married these factors together into a contrasting, modern design.
The outside signage was realized as rear-illuminated channel letters that are fully custom, with visible illumination that makes it a much higher-end final product than standard halo-lit signs. Even though the building is more of a heritage space, this signage elevates and modernizes its façade by covering some of the aging elements of the structure with beautiful signage hardware.
The comprehensive implementation of the branding from signage to marketing materials inside the restaurant and throughout their online presence develops a sense of consistency and level of comfort among their patrons. Using professional design strategies that exist as beautiful representations in signage and branding gives patrons a sense that Bottega 104 takes their atmosphere as seriously as they take their pasta.
